Tourists turned Bikers

I was up at 6:30 and hoofed it for 30 minutes to get to the gym. A lot of old iron weights and bars on equally old equipment crammed into a small building. A bit of a sweat box for sure and the simple fans on the walls didn't offer much relief, however, it was more than adequate to get the job done. Actually very similar to the gyms I first started out in 35 or so years ago.
Back at the hotel we arranged for two scooter rentals to take a trip to the southern tip of the island, a 22 km journey one way. Along the way we came across a pearl farm where we stopped for a tour. It was very interesting and of course there was a large shop with a variety of pearls and pearl jewelry fore sale.
Back on the road we travelled over the red earth road to the town of An Thio. Not much there so onwards past the Coconut Prison to Sao Beach. Because the prison is on the map we thought it was a tourist attraction but it is an active prison.
Sao beach was very nice with shallow turquoise water and white sand. Not overly busy. There were a few (not so good) restaurants along the beach. We picked a table on the sand next to the boarded floor of the restaurant. Hammocks were strung between the posts of the outer wall next to our table, most of which were occupied by locals. In the middle of our not so good meal we were very unpleasantly interrupted by the one fellow getting up out of his hammock (by David), covering one nostril with his thumb and in on breath spewing the contents of his other nostril all over the sand! Disgusting to say the least.
The best part of the trip was the joy we got from riding the scooters across the country side. Even though it was hot and dusty it was an awesome ride. I told Marie she looked like a C.H.I.P.S. in her helmut and shades from the TV show. LOL

  1. Hi all. Scootering is fun isn't it. More great pictures. Wish we were there enjoying the warm weather. We are off to Saskatoon on Dec 24 where it is -30 C. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year without the snow and cold weather. LOL Jo and Clay
