More of Phu Quoc

Ok, the 20th was a walk about the town and sit by the beach day! David and Mary-Jo opted for the beach while I managed to talk Marie into walking into town with me. It is the same walk David and I did the day before, except with the added mission of finding a gym for yours truly. So after breakfast at a very interesting buffet provided by the hotel we struck out around 9:30 which is the time it is just starting to get hot! The walk takes about 30 minutes which puts us at the pier and market. We crossed the bridge along with the steady flow of scooters coming and going. Once across the bridge you realize what really is the true meaning of congested traffic! OMG thee was a steady sea of scooters. The interesting part is that while there were so,many they were all relatively patient and, while slow, there was a nice steady flow to the traffic. Of course most were trying to shop and would stop in front of the vendor of choice and proceed to negotiate and purchase their goodies at the expense of the next scooter trying to get by. Oh what fun it is! Gotta love and appreciate these people.
We crossed back over the bridge and located the local gym which is actually part of the sports arena, unfortunately the gym was closed so we thought ( or rather I thought) we would explore some more of the town. We walked a bit more under the hot sun ( around 11:30) when Marie let me know she as having a heat stroke! Our solution, of course, was to retreat into an Internet cafe (yes they have one) and hide in the shade while sipping on a cool fruit shake.
Refreshed, we strike out on our journey back to the hotel. Once there we joined MJ and D on the beach. Our evenings are very routine, from beach to shower in the room to happy hour on the balcony to dinner in one of the plentiful restaurants a lot of them beach front.
Last night we walked to a restaurant about 30 minutes down the beach, next door to one we tried and loved, the first night. The first night was at the Hieu, fantastic food at more than a reasonable prices. Last night the food was good but a bit more pricey than the first. Vietnam's food is very good. Some pics of day two at our place in Phu Quoc.

  1. Georg & Marie, Thanks for this amazing travelogue. I was wondering about Christmas and now I see Santa Claus.

    Thanks
