Pham Ngu Lao area

We packed our bags and made the switch to the hotel in the Pham Ngu Lao area. We weren't able to check in right away, it's 9 AM, so we left our packs a went exploring. We decided to look at some of the hotels listed in the Lonely Planet guide.
The streets are lined with hotel after hotel. A lot a tall narrow buildings 6 to 7 stories high, obviously designed to keep the traveller in shape with an endless number stairs. Our hotel is of the same design, however we were fortunate to get a room with only two, levels of stairs.
Hotels range from the cheap to the ultra expensive. We walked by Saigon Plaza Hotel and decided to ask rates. Oops! $545.00 per night. Oh well didn't really want that much luxury anyway. LOL so instead we enjoyed the view from the outside and the gardens in the plaza area.
We passed several bakeries and after all the temptations broke down and went into a French Pastry bakery. We enjoyed a very taste baguette with ham and cheese as well as a cinnamon roll with coffee. Refreshed we continued our walk ending up back at our hotel, Madame Cuc, which appears to be in the heart of all the night life and most of the backpackers are here. This area is unbelievably busy !! The local night club, "Crazy Buffalo" is a few doors down from us and booms all night long until at least 5 or 6 in the AM! With our window over the street we also get to enjoy all the wondrous, music and sounds of partying, until the wee hours of the morning.
We decided we needed a switch up from our daily diet of eggs. We found a spot that had yogurt and granola with fruit. While enjoying our breakfast we were continually approached by vendors trying to sell Marie hand held fans. The persistence of one lady vendor finally paid off when Marie broke down and bought a package of three. Before we had a chance to flee another younger gal came by also trying to sell fans. When Marie told her she already bought some and did not want anymore the girl became seemingly angry. She stood by us and glared at us for about ten minutes all the while saying we should help her and that Marie was a liar. Not sure what prompted all of that but it was weird.
