Bangkok

We have had two extremely humid and hot days for our first experience in Bangkok! Day one was a day to explore and get our bearings. Thankfully David and Mary-Jo are seasoned travellers to Bangkok. We took the rail to the river and then a water taxi to the Shanghai hotel stop. We did a walk about of the markets and then made our way to the Palace. Several times we were given misleading information by local Thai's, one at a side entrance to the Palace by a uninformed person who tried to tell us the Palace was closed. Of course when we made our way around to the front it was very much open. These scams are abundant. They tell you the place is closed and but they can take you to another attraction that is open. Their buddy is standing by with a Tuk Tuk to take you but it is to a place where they will try and sell you something.
By the middle of the afternoon, jet lag, the heat and the hustle and bustle of all the people started to take its toll so we grabbed a cab and started to make our way back.
We stopped in at the biggest shopping mall I have ever seen, the Siam Center. What an extreme contrast to the shanty markets by the river. On the third floor was a Maserati dealer with three Maserati's on display. Your choice for a mere $470,000.00 US!

  1. I'll take two, Mazerati's that is. Crazy looking boats and what on earth is that stuff for sale in the market picture?
