Rain, rain and more rain

Day three of rain! Grey skies and a damp misty air graduating to a drizzle, sometimes rain, then back to a drizzle with intermittent dry periods. (Forecast indicates NO sun for the rest of the week) We have resigned ourselves to lulling about the town, reading while enjoying a coffee and trying to plan our next adventure. Over the next couple of days, rain or not, we want to go to the beaches (5 km) and Cam Kim island.
While by the market we stumbled onto Phuong bakery. The Aussie family standing by the tiny counter said "you gotta try this! these are fantastic!) It is a junky looking place that makes excellent baguettes stuffed with your choice of chicken or pork add a bit of their home made pâté (not sure what it is) greens, hot chili and a whole lot yummy! Absolutely best bang for your buck (yes $1) for the tastiest lunch in Hoi An.

We are considering Laos, Luang Prabang specifically, however, from where we are transportation is a challenge. I never though for a moment that it was this difficult to get around, rather thought we could just go from town to town. We definitely will never make it as gypsy travellers as we enjoy being rooted in one place with the option to travel about for day trips.
To get to Luang means enduring several days via bus and/trains or getting up to Hanoi where it is cooler and then arranging a flight. Visas can be obtained at the airport upon arrival or at the border when crossing. From the complicity of getting there to the challenge of getting a budget hotel not forgetting the crappy weather, we are starting to favour heading south to the sun and the beaches.
My tuxedo (David gets the blame, LOL) should be ready today; What was I thinking? OMG! Must have been the cheap price. Marie is trying out the custom made leather sandals. Should be interesting. She is now thinking perhaps she paid too much as she did not haggle over the price.
Walking about town we ran into Richard and Lucy, the couple we met in Ho Chi Minh City. A nice surprise so we all went to Miss Ly's (rated #1 by Trip Advisor) for dinner. Sweet and sour squid for Marie while I had fish steak wrapped in bamboo leaves. Both were delicious!
Returning to the hotel we, as usual, were pleasantly greeted by our hostess and offered a snack. Usually water melon, today it was a muffin which we enjoyed along with a cup of tea.

  1. Calgary has snow as does most of Canada ... just for a little perspective.
