Ao Nang

January 19th we packed up and left Kuala Lumpur for Krabi, Thailand. Easy flight and easy bus ride put as on the door step of our hotel by 3 PM. We only had two nights booked so our first mission was to walk about the town and check out some of the hotels. The town of Ao Nang was not at all what we expected. This place is all tourists, tourist shops and a steady line of hotels. Surprisingly most in our price range, at least the ones we would stay at, were already booked. Seems the average price for a basic room is $40 to $50 a night with a 15 minute walk to the beach. Long stays get a better rate but the ones we checked didn't have any long stretches available. We decided to try to book an extra night at our place to give us time to decide how long and where to stay. Our hotel is booked and cannot accommodate us for a week. It has large clean rooms, no pool and is about 15-20 min walk from the beach. The beach is large and wide and the water is clear. The main road curves around the beach front and is lined with shops, restaurants and hotels. The beach is also the main access point to the long boats for island excursions.
